Running, Running, Running
Many of you will know that I have recently contributed to a book: Running, Running, Running. 3 hours of running provides a great deal of thinking time. As I was pottering round Nederhorst den Berg, ‘S Graveland, lost in the woods in Hilversum and fighting off the midges in Loosdrecht and Vreeland, I was thinking about WHY?
Why do we do it? What keeps us motivated?
The answers are in this book.
It’s written for runners by runners. It contains pages and pages written with passion and experience. The comforting thing is that there is someone who has been through it before you!
Yes – there are other nutters out there doing exactly the same thing as you. And guess what? What’s going through their heads is also similar! What I also found amazing is that I think that I am crazy pounding the streets for my 4th marathon. I am just an ORDINARY person doing ORDINARY stuff. Most of the other writers have been running marathons for YEARS and for many a marathon is nothing.
A marathon seems to be the minimum qualification to contribute to the book. A marathon a week, ultra marathons, running with disabilities, iron mans, running to lose weight are all included.
The main thing is that its practical stuff from guys and gals who have been through it. Basic stuff about how to begin, what to eat, avoiding injuries and what to do if you do encounter one. Chapters about nutrition, training, staying motivated and dealing with the silly excuses that pop up in your head – such as “no time”!!
It’s a book for all brains as well. Some are simple common sense articles that you could have written yourself and others FAR more complicated and extremely inciteful. There is even a chapter that goes into the runner’s high and how all that works! Plus how to avoid depression after a marathon.
As we know, the best way to run is to do it – so just enjoy the read!
