Ever been asked if you were a body builder?
Had to laugh! I was doing some weights today at Fitness Centre Weesp and was asked if I was ever a body builder!! I took it as a compliment. I thanks my new friend who looked rather surprised when I said that I was actually a runner and simply used weights to support the fitness programme for my running.
He did agree with me the importance of ensuring whole body fitness. Too often I hear my running friends complaining of back, hip, shoulder etc etc problems. So far I have had no such complaints. In fact I definitely feel the benefits of cycling and have recently discovered Body Pump. It’s a great way to strengthen ALL your muscles – I do tend to focus on my legs.
My body fat is now down to 20%. In spite of being asked today if I was ever a body builder (sorry just have to mention it) I am still carrying quite a bit of back fat – a friend kindly pointed out to me. She immediately recommended some exercises – she particularly suggested upper back exercises. These are not necessarily my favourite but I guess the more I do them the more I will enjoy them!
It has also been recently said to me that for running you should just run and run and run. I can see that there should be a balance – you can’t expect a body builder to run a marathon. I wonder what that balance is?
