The days after the Paris Marathon…
NO PAIN whatsoever!! It is truly amazing. An overall sort of “washed out” feeling. Some gentle exercise did not seem to do any harm either! BUT what was/ is weird is the overall disoriented feeling of NO REAL GOAL anymore. I am seriously considering Amsterdam Marathon Oct 2011 – I simply HAVE to get my time up and set a new goal.
The next event that I am entered for is the awesome Texel Half Marathon but that’s in September so yonks away. So on the “to do” pad this w/e is planning 2011. We are travelling to London often for our business – Feeling-healthy.net so I need to plan around these trips.
So what did I do this week? I have to add to my recommendations for post marathon recovery – GO AWAY!
This week we were in L’Ampolla, Spain. It was an incredible break. Fab weather to start with ending in buckets of rain the day we left. But that did not matter. What really mattered was the break from the daily rhythm and the activity we undertook.
There was a great deal of eating and drinking. Spanish wine is amazingly priced for the quality that you can get. There are is a small French restaurant – Le Table Gilet (no website that I can find!) and the Club Nautica were among a the restaurants visited. PLUS we made our own entertainment post visit to the vineyard Mas de les Vinyes. Josep enlightened us regarding the history and the grapes grown on the vineyard. The tasting was very good!
The white was amazing with the oysters that we purchased from the “boat” in L’Ampolla.
The plan was to swim. Wow! that water was cold – and that was the swimming pool not even the sea (we did see some made folk in wet suits swimming in the sea!). I started the week with an 11 k run along the beach, through a piece of the Delta and back around the village. Here and there NO sport at all – other than walking around places and up and down the hills to our flat.
Persuaded Joost to participate in a “training” session where we did some “running school” type exercises. I also roped him into some run/jog sessions in the Delta – but really nothing too strenuous. It was great! Although I do feel a bit pudgy.
This w/e so far a run round the Spiegelplas – 8.2 k and a bike ride on my recumbent before church today – just 15 k and it was great – spring and life is here!!
