Prepare for a marathon the German Silva way & win the New York Marathon

Some of you who have been following my blog may have seen me “name drop” German Silva, winner if the New York Marathon in 1994 and 1995. He and his wife Miranda, are often in correspondence. He was very supportive of me during my Paris Marathon preparation. We came into contact as we share similar business interests. We also have a common experience with supplements. In terms of running performance – I am not quite at his standard yet – but, hey! We can all have aspirations can’t we.

German was kind enough to grant me an interview. He covered two topics:

  1. preparation for a marathon
  2. on the day of the marathon

This first video covers the preparation phase.

For those of you fast enough to register for the Texel Half Marathon (I think that it was full after 15 mins of the registration being open!), to which he is ambassador, you will have a chance to run with him on the 25th of September.

German is also promoting a running formula which you can hear about on the video and read more about it on his site:  He is on a mission to reach as many athletes as possible. In this way he not only coaches elite athletes but is reaching over 1,000 runners through internet and providing them with personal coaching.

In the video he talks about the products that I use in my training and we promote in our business. He includes many of the food supplements that I use. More information can be found on our site.

What struck me most about German’s advice: “anyone who can jog for one minute can run a marathon” – just think about that….you only have WANT to do it – pretty much like everything in life!

He also talks about some key learning points. Turn your mistakes into BENEFITS and LEARN from them – they make you stronger – and keep on going until you reach your goal.

    Hoi Liz,

    Leuk interview en ook leuke teksten over hardlopen.
    Ik zelf ben nog lang niet zo ver als jij, ik ga eerst maar eens de Singelloop in Utrecht (ruim) binnen het uur afleggen en dan zie ik wel verder.
    Ik loop nu ongeveer 4 maanden, ik merk dat mijn conditie goed vooruitgaat en dat lopen makkelijker wordt, ik voel meer spieren maar ik merk nog weinig gewichtsverlies (een van de redenen om te gaan lopen). Wellicht kan een of meerder van jullie producten helpen?
