Training in 28 degrees centigrade
Could I realistically run 10 k this morning in the Texas heat? I decided not to attempt the impossible after a fast 10 k on Sunday, a plane trip of 10 hours and the heat – even though, relatively 28/88 degrees was cooler than the 107 we had experienced yesterday. This morning would be orientation for other mornings re geography in this Dallas suburb and a trial of the heat. So Joost decided to come too!
We jogged off alongside a main road. We had been advised that there was a park somewhere in the area. We had quite some discussion as we started out as to which direction to go. Joost is usually good with directions so I yielded.
Eventually I decided to move off the main road and run along the houses. ALL rather nice and all very different to one another. It was already feeling hot and we stopped to “warm up” or rather do some stretches.
Quiet roads with people dashing to work, older folk picking up their papers and younger people being whisked off to school in the big yellow school bus. Nice to be an observer of American everyday life.
Having been out a little longer than planned – so maybe we did make it to 5 k – we found our way back to our hotel.
Felt good to have established a pattern and beaten the heat.
Maybe tomorrow we will find the park…
